Accordion Pro

When I released liteAccordion v1 in February last year, a few people asked if I would consider doing a WordPress version.  After releasing v2 in November, I set about creating a plugin that would help users to quickly create and implement horizontal accordions into their WordPress posts and pages.

I finally finished Accordion Pro last week.  I’m happy to say that it’s passed review on CodeCanyon, and it’s now available to purchase.

Check out Accordion Pro on CodeCanyon, or view the live demo.

Accordion Pro features:

  • Multiple Skins — four attractive themes for your accordions (basic, dark, light and stitch).
  • HTML & Visual Content Editors — enter slide content using the WordPress visual editor, or use the HTML editor if you’re more comfortable with markup.
  • Thickbox Upload — seamless integration with WordPress allows you to use the native Thickbox functionality for uploading and embedding your images and videos.
  • Shortcode & Template Insertion — insert accordions into your posts and pages with a shortcode, or use the PHP tags provided to insert accordions into your themes.
  • Click or Mouseover Activation — activate the tabs of your accordions on click or on mouseover.
  • AutoPlay — accordions can be set to automatically cycle through all of the slides.
  • Pause on Hover — set an option to pause the animation cycle on hover.
  • Style Options — customise the appearance of your accordions with a multitude of style options.
  • Easing & Speed Options — transition speed, cycle speed and easing function options.
  • Captions — enter captions for your slides; toggle the captions on and off in the content editor.
  • Translation Ready — translate the plugin into your language.

You basically get all the features of liteAccordion, wrapped in a nice content manager :)

Thanks to Mike Rogers for help with the WordPress Plugin API, and thanks again to Orman Clark for his awesome designs.

I am developing a site using the Responsive by Emil Uzelac. One of its features is support of child themes. For those readers who may not understand the power of this concept, suffice to say that that the thematic, and even some of the functional aspects of the parent theme will be load from the child theme if present, else it will default to the parent theme. This provides insulation from subsequent developer updates that may overwrite certain modified files. While not a replacement for backing-up ones site, it does provide, shall we say, separation from church and state.

As a well satisfied purchaser of Accordian Pro, I am wondering about how child support might be incorporated into a plug-in such as yours. Since it comes with some of its own themes for styling the player, why not treat them as child themes? At minimum, provide a hook for a “custom” them, if present, in the drop-down, which would be the basic theme modified by the user. That way, even subsequent updates would not need to disturb the “custom” theme and if things broke, the “custom” them could be compared to the revised “basic” theme to understand the problems introduced by the update.

Lovely product. Well worth the few dollars paid (in fact, bought a different product first, albeit, with a bit more sizzle, but realized only after the fact that it was flash and jquery oriented and would not play nicely on iDevices. So, I bought yours and it behaves rather nicely (would like it to be a bit more “responsive” to different screen/media devices).

    Cheers!

      Hi Charles,

Thanks for your comments, I’m happy you like my plugin :) You’ve definitely given me something to think about, I’ll have to look into child theme support now. I have ‘responsive’ planned for the next update, but I’m really busy with client work on the run up to Christmas, so it won’t be released any time soon I’m afraid.

      Thanks again!
      Nikki.

That would be awesome, I’ll help you test it!
Totally promise to upgrade when the final is released :)

    Hey Nikki,
No problem – just out of interest (honestly, no pressure) when do you think you may add it in?
I have a client site that requires it, so if it’s it’s a wee way down the line – would you mind if I had a go?
Not that I know where to start mind.
    But that’s what Google’s for right? :)

I’m in the middle of writing it at the moment – it kinda works, but it’s (very!) untested. I can send you a copy if you promise to upgrade once the proper update is released?

    Hey Nikki,
Great plugin – thank you! Quick question – shortcode support, or in particular with regards to Gravity Forms.
This [gravityform id=1 title=false description=false] simply displays as text within that particular tab of the accordion – so what am I missing – or is shortcode support missing?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jas

      Hi Jason,

I’m afraid shortcodes aren’t supported in the current version – a bit of an oversight on my part tbh. I’m working on it though! :)

  6. I’m glad you did the WordPress version, very easy to use and style!

    Thanks
    Chris
